Mind Solution’s intensive in-home therapeutic services recognize the need for Bilingual/Bicultural behavioral health services to be implemented in the community. We promote diversity and inclusive mental health services in support of equality. Community-based services include intensive in-home therapy and in-home case management, each of which provides parents and caregivers a more structured and effective parenting approach.

Families participating in the intensive in-home therapy program receive a variety of services within their home. The families we serve struggle in traditional therapeutic settings due to the limited adaptive functioning many children with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) have, as well as the intensity level of the child’s needs. Because children with IDD and mental illness (here on referred to as dual diagnosis, or dually diagnosed) struggle with adapting to new environments, it is challenging for them to learn and implement the necessary skills to exacerbate the symptoms of their specific illness. In-home therapy allows children the safety of their familiar environment and encourages the use of these skills in the potentially triggering home environment.

Additionally, Mindsolutions provides parents therapeutic support in the areas of grief and loss (often associated with having a dually diagnosed child), advocacy, parenting skills, and the validation they need to be more proactive and successful in their approaches with their children.

Furthermore, parents will become equipped with tools and techniques to manage their child’s behaviors in a crisis, which decreases the likelihood of a child going to the hospital for a psychiatric emergency, hospitalization, or re-hospitalization. Clinicians not only provide therapeutic support but assist with teaching the children daily living skills, such as personal hygiene, laundry, budgeting, and other necessary skills for life. The clinicians at Mindsolutions have extensive training and experience in adapting a variety of evidenced-based approaches to meet the complex needs of the dually diagnosed population. The types of treatments utilized include, but are not limited to, trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy, play and sand therapy, trauma systems therapy, and animal assisted therapy.
